"Alfred Williamson, known as Ivan (his middle name), was the step-son of
Lawrence G.
Yates (details provided earlier) and lived
in London Road, Brandon, and served in the 2nd Battalion Suffolk Regiment from 1930 - 1938. He spent all that time in India,
where this
picture was taken.
He retired from the Army in February 1938, but was recalled to the colours on 5th July
1939 and posted
to 1st Battalion Suffolk Regiment. He went to France with the regiment in late 1939, and was evacuated from Dunkirk with them in June
1940, where he was hit at Dunkirk, and was invalided out of the Army after evacuation.
I think he lived in Euston village, near Brandon, after his discharge, before moving
to Carelton Rode in Norfolk where he died in 1967. Attached is a picture of my great-uncle, "
