During the course of my research I have come across some fine websites.

Brandon websites

"The history of Brandon on a web site.  Features include details of residents during the late 1800s who are indexed by the road they lived in and many pictures, both historical and present day."
Welcome to BRANDON "Your guide to products, services and events in Brandon and the surrounding area."
Brandon.Suffolk.co.uk "This website has been designed and built for the town of Brandon, Suffolk, England.
It's purpose is to help promote the Town and the surrounding area's by offering information about the the town, it's people, and it's environment
."
Brandon Communities Partnership "The vision of the Brandon Community partnership is of a "Brandon for all". A town that we can be proud to live in and be part of that community."

"Brandon Station today is very different from how it looked to travellers departing or arriving even forty or fifty years ago. It was in the 1980s that a decision was made to reduce the station staff to a single signalman at this historic 1845 building. This staff decision has continued right up to the present day, with additionally a reduction of the number of trains stopping at the station ..."

Other local history sites

SOHAM ROOTS

"Soham is a small market Town situated between Ely and Newmarket, in the County of Cambridgeshire.  Soham has a long and varied history and through Soham Roots we hope that you may learn a little about this.  We hope also to be of some assistance to anyone who may be searching for those ancestors that once lived in our Town."

Local Second World War links

THE DESERT RATS - 7TH ARMOURED DIVISION
"The 7th Armoured Division was stationed in Thetford Forest between January and May 1944 while they prepared for the invasion of Normandy. This was the only time the Division was in the United Kingdom in it's entire existence ... "

"The following chapters are taken from a diary and letters of a young man in his late teens and early twenties. When writing down his thoughts he didn't think them to be spectacular, but from the time he went to fight for his country his life changed and it will take longer than his lifetime for the memories to fade."
FEPOW COMMUNITY  The FEPOW Community site is dedicated to promoting awareness of the treatment of Far East Prisoners Of War, who were captives of the Japanese.  This site run by Ron Taylor, Great Yarmouth, and features 'The FEPOW Group' to exchange information and ideas for books to read and web sites to visit.  A very good site to visit to start one's research.

RECRUITED SECRETLY and not even enrolled as soldiers to further protect their anonymity in case of German invasion.  The Auxiliary Units formed by Colin Gubbins were to have been Britain's last ditch line of defence, operating in a network of cells from hidden underground bases.

Global Second World War links

"A site dedicated to the Burma Star Association and the men and women who fought and served in the Burma Campaign against the Japanese during 1941-1945.  Gives history of the campaign and the regiments involved, and to re-unite former comrades from that time. "

 A LANCASHIRE CHINDIT

"This site is to celebrate the life of Sgt. William Clift. M.M.  Bill fought alongside Brigadier 'Mad Mike' Calvert as one of Major General Wingate's famous Chindits during World War ll.  He was awarded the Military Medal for his part in the battle for Henu (Pagoda) Hill.  He sadly died aged 62 on January 18th 1982."
Other links

"The Royal British Legion is the UK's leading charity safeguarding the welfare, interests and memory of those who have served in the Armed Forces and their dependants. It provides financial, social and emotional support to millions and its benevolence spans all age groups from the oldest to the very young. "
"After the Great War it was decided that the memorial to the fallen from the Administrative County of East Suffolk should take the practical form of a new wing attached to the East Suffolk and Ipswich Hospital ... Unlike most war memorials the names of the men and women who had given their lives were not recorded anywhere in it. It was therefore decided that a list should be compiled of the dead - not just of East Suffolk but of the two Administrative Counties of East and West Suffolk, because contributions to the Hospital extension had been received from both counties."
"The Commission was established by Royal Charter in 1917.
Its duties are to mark and maintain the graves of the members of the forces of the Commonwealth who were killed in the two World Wars, to build memorials to those who have no known grave and to keep records and registers, including, after the Second World War, a record of the Civilian War Dead. "
