Percy Bradbury

In the course of making this web site I have come across historical accounts not connected with Brandon, some appeared during my research and some have been given from people visiting the web site.  I have included these accounts under the menu headline of 'Non Brandon'.  They are not connected with Brandon in anyway at all but still deserve a page as their history is still worthy of being recorded.

This account of Percy Bradbury has been given from Percy's great-nephew, Lee Bradbury and it is reproduced here with his kind permission.  Percy served with the 5th Suffolk Battalion and died as a POW at the hands of the Japanese after the fall of Singapore.

Private Percy Bradbury, 5833402, served with the 5th Suffolk Battalion despite living in Bankside, Southall, Middlesex, London, at that time.

Percy was captured after the fall of Singapore with the 5th Suffolk Battalion and died as a Prisoner of War of the Japanese, aged 26, on the 21st July 1943 from dysentery and is buried in Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, Plot 1, Row P, Collective Grave 54-58.

Percy's nephew, Ken, (Lee's father) was born in January 1933 (the same day Hitler took power in Germany) and remembers Percy sitting in the parlour at Bankside, Southall with his brother, in uniform just before leaving the UK.

Percy's entry in the 5th Suffolk Battalion roll, detailed as having died in Changi hospital.
